Counterpoint to Ann Coulter

In response to Ann Coutler's recent visit to Tulane, Chi Alpha would like to invite the you to an honest dialogue regarding such difficult issues as cultural and economic imperialism, terrorism and religiously motivated violence in general, tolerance and hatred, and Christian evangelistic work. These are not easy topics, but if we are to be the best people we can be, we must address difficult issues with more than a jeer, a prejudgment, or an apathetic wave of the hand. I also hope Tulane Christians can have the opportunity to graciously present their beliefs, and the ethic they embrace as followers of Jesus of Nazareth.

Please join us this coming Monday, the 29th, in the 1834 Room/Faculty-Staff Dining room in the Tulane LBC (#215) at 8pm for a talk and dialogue with a Christian worker who has lived with the Islamic Albanian people in the Balkans for the past decade: When Cultures Clash: Hatred vs. Tolerance… or is there another Way – a counterpoint to Ann Coulter. For the sake of space and real dialogue, only the first 60 guests will be admitted.

The first comment on this post introduces our guest speaker.

kind of a big deal(s)

Chi Alpha New Orleans is excited to be a part of something much bigger than our community: the Body of Christ Universal. We get to participate in that reality through an upcoming 49 hour prayer party at Tulane and Loyola in conjunction with several other campus Christian communities. See the sign-up list. Sign-up for an hour or two. www.forty8.orgAlso, we get to be a part of Chi Alpha, USA, and our regional winter conference: SALT. This conference is pretty much amazing, every year. It's hard for me to express the beauty of what happens at these things (I've been to 6 of them, now). Every year, God and community and brilliant speakers and incredible music coalesce into a few days of life-time memories, powerful life transformation, and deep learning, and on and on. Trust me, you want to be there.

Actively Believing

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10

Some good work is in the works this Saturday-the 20th, as Chi Alpha is teaming up from CACTUS at Tulane to have a Paint Rally at Live Oak Elementary from 9-3:30. Lunch will be provided.

If you would like to help us paint and fix and clean-up at this school, please email action@nolaxa.com before Thursday at 9am, or you can call 504.655.9273 and leave voicemail. Meet-up details and so forth will go out to those signed up later on Thursday.

In other news along these lines, Wednesday is the Global Day of Action Against Poverty.

information from the One Campaign on the Jubillee Act

What will you do to help make poverty history?
For many this is a hot political issue. I post it here, because I believe the Jewish and Christian Scriptures clearly teach debt forgiveness: see the law of jubilee, and the Lord's Prayer. I hope visitors of this website will consider their positions on wealth, poverty, and debt in light of God's Word again, or maybe for the first time.
